Nine

It was a very busy evening. You see we are preparing for the big birthday tomorrow. We have a very excited five, almost six year old. This may be the first year she actually gets it.

I am five years old. I have a birthday. Then I will be six years old. The five year old thing is gone forever. I'll be six. Six! A big kid. Wow. It's pretty fun to have a conversation with her about the whole birthday thing. It doesn't take much to excite her, and not once has she asked for anything. No toys, presents, gifts, just chocolate cake please. And chocolate ice cream.  Wow.  Love that girl.

Because there's been some extra attention on Chelsea, and he can't stand it when other people have birthdays and get presents, it's been an Epsom bath kind of night for Logan. Yep. There have been tears, and kicking, and screaming, and hitting, and lots of shouting. Come Wednesday I sure hope we can move on and regain a little routine, and in turn a little tranquility. (Well, our version of tranquility. Most would still probably consider it chaos.)

Somebody was oh so pleased to see mom had baked that chocolate cake. She was sure we were going to eat it tonight. She also thinks we will be having her swimming party tomorrow. On her birthday. Just wait until she realizes her party isn't for a week and a half.

I asked her yesterday, "do you want pink or purple cookies?"

"Pink AND purple."

How do I say no?

So how do we color frosting for giant homemade sugar cookies (without using petroleum store bought food coloring)?

And voila!

Okay, I could totally lie and let you all believe the strawberries made that beautiful pink frosting. But it didn't. I'm still learning, and since we had fresh organic strawberries in the fridge I thought I'd give it a try. The pink was very very pale. Hubs had to run to the store for more powdered sugar so I had him grab a can of beets while he was out. There is no better pink coloring than a couple of teaspoons of beet juice. Just gorgeous!  I may not be a great decorator, but I'm pretty sure her friends won't mind!
